Veridus Advisory: Arizona Primary Election 2026 Update #2

Dear Clients,
Arizona counties made significant progress today as they tabulated ballots remaining from Tuesday’s Primary. The state’s largest county, Maricopa, announced this evening it has fewer than 1% of ballots that await processing.
As of 10:00PM, below is a look at state and federal races of note, as well as contests that remain too close to call:
CD-1:
Media outlets have now called the CD-1 Democratic Primary for Amish Shah, pitting the former state lawmaker against the Republican nominee: former Arizona Cardinals kicker Jay Feely.
In an interesting twist of fate, Feely and Shah have history between one another. Shah was a team doctor for the New York Jets when Feely kicked for the team nearly 20 years ago.
Corporation Commission
Commissioner Kevin Thompson and state Rep. Ralph Heap have locked-up the GOP nominations, and Commissioner Nick Myers conceded the race this evening. The Democratic nominees will be Clara Pratte and Jonathon Hill.
Senate:
LD-27:
In perhaps the closest-watched of the remaining legislative races, Republican Rep. Kevin Payne leads former legislator Anthony Kern by a few hundred votes in the race for this West Valley Senate seat. This looks headed for a recount.
Arizona House of Representatives:
LD-21:
Democrat Miranda Lopez clings to a lead of just a couple hundred votes as she seeks to topple Rep. Stephanie Stahl Hamilton and claim the last of the two House seats in this Tucson district. Depending on how the few remaining ballots shake out, this race could also go to a recount.
