IN FOCUS - Oct. 9, 2026
Election month is here.
As of Wednesday, Arizona’s 4.3 million registered voters have been free to take to the polls, where they’re casting ballots to decide the fate of a host of ballot measures, congressional and statewide offices, and 90 legislative seats (not to mention a parade of local offices, judges and more).
This week brought a shakeup in the race for Governor with reporting that Turning Point PAC has spent over $18 million backing GOP Congressman Andy Biggs in his challenge to Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs. It appears much of the spending is for pre-purchased broadcast ads that have begun airing … now.
Team Hobbs added kerosene to the fire Thursday when it posted an internal memo for a survey showing the incumbent in the lead by only 4 points, within the poll’s margin of error. Is the race really that close? Might the Hobbs campaign be playing with the numbers in order to appeal to the Democratic Governors Association for another infusion of cash?
After months of repeated polling showing Governor Hobbs comfortably ahead, in some cases by double digits, consider us skeptical until another survey replicates the findings of an MOE race.
Either way, the race figures to get interesting down the stretch as Biggs outspends the Governor on TV for the first extended period of this campaign.
