The 264 bills signed into law last session by Governor Katie Hobbs are now in effect.
Saturday, Sept. 12, marked 90 days since formal adjournment of the Arizona legislative Regular Session - the traditional enactment date for bills that don’t include an emergency clause and take effect immediately.
Below is a sampling of some of the notable new laws now in effect:
Expansion of the state’s manslaughter law to enable prosecution of any adult who advises a minor to take his/her own life;
Increased penalties for distracted driving;
Additional penalties for the sale of vapes and nicotine products to minors;
A labeling requirement for lab-grown meat;
Child welfare reform to help prevent abuse and improve the rights of children in foster care; and
Additional protections to prevent HOA’s from outlawing umbrellas and similar backyard shade structures.
