Tuesday is Election Day in Arizona. The odd-year campaigns have been mercifully subdued and - thanks to the mostly all-mail voting next week - the bulk of ballots have already been cast.

Nonetheless, voters in 10 Arizona counties have elections and will decide the fate of an assortment of local funding authorizations, municipal races, public school bonds and overrides and more.

These are some of the high-profile issues that will be decided Tuesday in different jurisdictions across the state:

  • Proposition 409: Maricopa County voters in this all-mail election are asked to approve a $900 million bond for Valleywise Health, the county’s public hospital. Revenues would construct a new 200-bed behavioral health hospital, as well as expand pediatric and primary care and build an outpatient specialty center, among other service improvements.

  • Proposition 434: The small border town of San Luis, in southwestern Yuma County, is asking residents to approve a cost-cutting move by slashing the salary/benefits of its City Council to the tune of $500,000.

  • Cochise County excise tax: Cochise County is asking voters to approve a half-cent sales tax to fund construction of a new jail. This is a do-over of a 2023 election that was invalidated by the courts because certain voters did not receive ballots to which they were entitled.

  • City of Holbrook Charter tweaks: Navajo County’s seat is asking voters to approve a variety of city charter amendments to standardize local elections and increase the amount of money the city can spend without voter approval.
